Nottinghamshire County Council

NHS Nottinghamshire County is responsible for managing the local NHS and its main aim is to improve the health and wellbeing of the 650,000 people living in Nottinghamshire.

Our Client – The Patient and Public Involvement team (PPI), which helps to improve communication between staff and patients by raising awareness of health conditions and treatment plans to achieve better outcomes.

Services Provided – A ‘conference theatre’ event around customer care. It focused on World Class Commissioning, which is the vision to deliver outstanding performance in health care services.

Julie Bryant, Patient and Public Involvement Manager from NHS Nottinghamshire County said: ‘The event was a huge success and two-thirds of my colleagues described it as ‘excellent’.

The main message we wanted to get across was that the quality of customer care is equally as important as the annual throughput (number of patients treated).

By using real life scenarios, such as complaints from the public, the 50 delegates were able to really engage with what they were seeing. Some light-hearted humour helped to keep audience rapport and interaction to a maximum.

The workshop slot gave us a chance to discuss better ways of dealing with the situation.

It was fantastic when two colleagues took part in the improved rerun of the scenario alongside the Indigo Brave team.

As a result of the ‘hands on’ experience, colleagues have already told me that shifts in attitudes are starting to happen.

Indigo Brave is a fantastic way of changing attitudes and I would definitely use them in the future.’

Fifteen

Fifteen’s purpose is twofold: first to offer young people, often in need of a break, the experience of learning to work in the restaurant business and second, for our customers to enjoy fantastic food and knowledgeable customer service. Services Provided: Choicemaking, lifeskills and emotional intelligence training to apprentices group in London.

‘I have definitely got what I wanted from Indigo Brave. The relationship is great – very supportive. The facilitators care and believe in the apprentices as much as we do. You don’t always get that. They have been brilliant, making suggestions, really sharing the responsibility with me for making the training a success. After each session, we have talked through what happened and amended the process to fit what’s going on. It’s a real journey with the young people.

What we are trying to do is improve self-awareness, individual responsibility and appreciation of others’ needs. It’s tremendously hard work but the facilitators are fantastic. Capturing attention, remaining very positive and on the case, and sustaining that in a very challenging environment.
